Your Questions About Halloween Costumes For Kids

Lisa asks…

How can I make Halloween costumes for my kids this year?

I’m too poor to spend $20-30 a piece on costumes this year. What are some EASY and CHEAP costume ideas for a boy – 6, and a girl – 4?
Thanks!

admin answers:

There is a fabulous website with all kinds of great costumes that you can make at home!
Here is the website-

http://www.robinsfyi.com/holidays/halloween/costumes.htm

& these are some of my favorites off of it-

A Crash test dummy – After! There is a commercial costume for this, but a good one can be made with sweats and tape to make the markings on it like the crash test dummies. Use bandages and fake blood to decorate. Fashion a seat belt out of webbing and an old buckle and pin in place. (or go to a junk yard as ask for an old seatbelt).

Mother Nature

* Silk flowers and silk plant leaves in a variety of shapes and colours an old skirt and vest
* a face mask
* € twigs (collected from your nearby park or in your own backyard) to make a nest
* € a foam bird that you can find at any craft store
* € glue gun and wire

Decorate the vest & skirt with the silk leaves in a random pattern and glue into place. Decorate the skirt with flowers growing out from the leaves already put in place.Use the remaining leaves and small flowers to decorate the face mask. Gather your twigs and secure with wire to make a nest. Place your bird on the twigs and secure into place with the wire. You can add some leaves and peat moss as a filler. The child can wear a dark coloured turtleneck and leggings under the vest and skirt for the evening walk to get treats.

( this one sounds like it might cost a little, but you can usually find bags of flower petals for a $1 at joanns or Michales, they are usually used for runners at weddings)

I wish you the best!
Xoxo
Meg

Mary asks…

I have 3 young kids – suggestions on related Halloween costumes??

I have an almost 4 year old son, an almost 2 year old daughter, and a 4 month old son. I have a thing about my kidsHalloween costumes coordinating (i.e. last year, my oldest 2 were an angel and a devil). Any suggestions for the 3 of them – my lil man threw a curveball at me and so I’m struggling to come up with something for all 3. Also, I live in Ohio so Halloween time gets a little nippy outside so no super duper skimpy costumes are possible either! Any suggestions are appreciated – thanks!

Need help quick about a “halloween house!!”?

We are building a “Gingerbread halloweenhouse and like a village around it. I have goobs of candy to work with but need some ideas for the village and such. Any ideas?? Thanks everyone!! My son is having so much fun!! It is going to rock!
More details please!!! The more the better!!!!!

admin answers:

Well of COURSE gum drop trees.

It would also be cute if there was a little farm house and in the back there be a “garden” of candy corns(maybe growing from tootsie rolls?)

You could also use those little sour patch kids as people and have them doing misc things around the city.

A grave yard would also be cute. You could use hershey squares and use a little tiny pin to carve in inscriptions.

There could be a little “stream” with swedish fish swimming around it.
(water can be blue seran wrap)

Hope you like my ideas :)

Robert asks…

Wheres the coolest place to be for Halloween in the United States?

I want to take a trip towards the end of October to some state that really knows how to celebrate Halloween. What I dont want is Halloween in Hawaii, or Halloween in Arizona. I want some place that captures the essence of autumn, pumpkin carving contests, street masquerades, themed food and drink, those fun houses where people jump out at you.

Some place where the leaves are beautiful and the culture is inviting, fun, and classically cool.

Got any ideas?

Your Questions About Halloween Makeup Store

Carol asks…

what can i use instead of fake blood that comes out of clothes easily?

I want to dress up as a zombie for halloween and i want to but some blood, not too much, in my clothes but afterwards i want to take it off.
will fake blood (the one bought in makeup stores) get off easily or is there another thing i can use instead, like red food colouring or something?

admin answers:

I’m dressing up as a zombie too!!! Um I was trying out some things to see what will stain clothes ,and I found this website on how to look like a zombie and how to make fake blood! Http://www.wikihow.com/Look-Like-a-Zombie I made the blood and it IS washable! I got to warn you though it is quite sticky!!! But it looks like real blood!

Hope I helped and make sure you don’t lose a limb or anything this Halloween! Lol. Just kidding!

Richard asks…

What do I put underneath Halloween makeup?

I’m going to paint my face like a tiger and I know you’re supposed to put baby powder on when you’re done to protect the makeup, but what do you put on underneath as a base so it doesn’t discolor my skin?

Also, what kind of makeup should I use?

Please Help!

admin answers:

As long as you thoroughly wash it off your face and you use proper makeup it shouldn’t discolor your skin. Just make sure you put it on a clean face!

Make sure you buy a proper Halloween makeup kit from a halloween store or something. Using marker or eye makeup will clog your skin, and marker will be harder to get off. When you wash it off use a makeup remover, like a creamy eye makeup remover. Ponds cream is really good at washing makeup off.

Sandy asks…

How can I make myself white with makeup?

I am of mixed race and on the lighter side, but i need, for Halloween, to be Caucasian.

Does anyone know of a good place for me to see tips, or have any ideas themselves?

admin answers:

Face paint. Go to party city or any Halloween stores.

Chris asks…

How can I make myself a “punk princess” costume for Halloween without spending a lot?

For Halloween I felt like changing things up and dressing up in a girly-punk outfit – the style called “punk princess”. Think Avril Lavigne’s style now-adays, I guess. Edgy punkiness without the androgenous edge. I don’t have a ton of money to spend, so any suggestions on how to save cash is very appreciated. Any ‘diy’ tips on pulling off punk inexpensively?

admin answers:

Raid your closet, pick out some pink and black clothing. If it’s old, you can cut small tears into it in random places. Visit a dollar store, or walmart, and by a boa and a plastic tiarra set for maybe $2-3 and there you go. =) A little bit of cheap makeup won’t hurt.

William asks…

What clothes should I wear with my Halloween costume?

I’m doing sugar skull makeup on my face and I’m not sure what clothes to wear. My hair will be a teased mess and curly. I have black leggings I was planning on wearing and gray boots but i don’t know what else to wear and what else I should do for my look. Any suggestions?

admin answers:

The traditional Day of the Dead in Mexico is the formal costume. The woman in the long ruffled skirt and fancy top, the man in the suit with the short jacket/bolero. The women had long dark hair with flowers on the sides. You could look at photos of Flamingo Dancers costumes and get ideas.
1. You could go to thrift stores and get floral print full skirt + peasant blouse.
2. Add flowers to your hair.
3. With the black leggings you’d need black shoes with heels.
OR…
1. You could dress all in black – head to toe.
2. Either wear your hair in traditional way (long full with flowers)
OR…
3. Pull back your hair into a ponytail/bun – leave it plain – use gel to make it smooth – so that the FACE is ALL that is SEEN.

PERSONALLY, I’d go for the second choice – all in black. I think that would be the most attention getting. I’ve seen some fantastic sugar skull faces! Good luck!
Happy Haunting!

Michael Jackson Question, about his kids? And not to be offensive!?

Today was Michael’s funeral and I watched it and was sad. When Paris came up, I was expecting some black in her, I was totally taken back by her blue eyes and brown straight hair and white skin. After seeing pictures of Prince (the first) and Paris, I started wondering if they really are his kids, and where is the third kid at? Why no pictures of him? Also why did the kids wear masks? Did they really wear halloween masks around to avoid the cameras? Whats up with the surangant mother? And please don’t think I don’t like Michael or his kids, he’s a pretty cool guy and I am sorry if I offended anyone!
I do agree with you Laken, even if he is not their biological father he is their their father.

admin answers:

♦ All 3 of his kids were at the Memorial. There mother is white, no one knows for sure, if Michael’s sperm was used to create the children or not. They use to wear mask per their mothers request, because of all the media attention, and trying to shelter them from that somewhat. They no longer wear masks. The mother of the first 2 kids, Michael was actually married too, the 3rd child was an unknown surrogate, no name listed on birth certificate.

What can we do to make sure that we have a great Halloween costume party?

We’re having a costume party at our house the Saturday before Halloween. I think we have enough booze, just bought a karaoke machine, got a fogger to lure the shy out into our living room dance floor, and lots of Halloween decorations. Looking for any tips to make sure we have a great party.

admin answers:

GOOD MUSIC!!! The karaoke machine is a great idea, but make a few CD’s with dance and Halloween tunes. Maybe put a few DVD’s in on mute (Halloween ,Nightmare on Elm St, etc.) I did that and everyone loved it!!! Have fun at your party!!!

Paul asks…

What are good Decorations for a Halloween Dance?

The Visual Arts team is throwing a Halloween Dance at school. I need to think of some amazing but easy decorations and ideas for games. We already have a fortune teller, and we are making a graveyard. We have a lot of space to fill, but are kind of short on help so we need big easy things. Thanks in advance for the help!!

admin answers:

I love Halloween!

Decorations:

Black and orange streamers, balloons, confettii. Black and orange plates, cups, cutlery…you could even try a novelty store and get some black and orange toilet paper for the washrooms!

Pumpkins! Try and see if you can find some giant ones. My husband grows them every year, and we usually average around 300 to 400 pounds per pumpkin! If you can’t find the huge ones…get lots of small ones!

Do-it-yourself scarecrows. Straw, hats and clothes! Too easy!

Candles…LOTS of candles! Stock up on black, orange and white candles. Big ones, small ones…TONS of ‘em! It’ll create a spooky glow!

Smoke machine. See if you can find a smoke machine for really cool special effects. This would be a great addition to your graveyard!

Large hanging ghosts. Easily made with rope and bedsheets!

Creepy headstones. Easily made with some cardboard and paint.

Spider webs. You can find this gauzy material at any dollar store for super cheap! Simply attach fake black spiders (also at the dollar store) and you’re set!

Game Ideas:

Guess how many? Fill a large jar with your choice of treats (maybe the classic candy corn?). Count how many you put in the jar! Have each guest guess how many candies are in the jar. The person who gets the closest without going over wins the goodies!

Costume contest! Person with the most original costume wins!

Pumpkin carving contest. Most unique design wins!

Bobbing for apples. Classic game.

Halloween pinata. You know what to do.

Halloween treasure hunt.

Guess the weight. Weigh a pumpkin. Whoever guess the closest to the correct weight without going over wins.

Halloween who am I? Each guest gets a famous Halloween character written on a piece of paper, and taped to their back (without seeing who it is). They must then ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions to other guests to figure out who they are.

Halloween musical chairs.

The ideas are pretty endless. Use your imagination!

Scary Halloween story?? WARNING:12+ (ONLY)!!!!!?

The Bloodstain
The Phelps place was an old, abandoned property with a monstrous, decrepit Victorian house that was supposed to be haunted. It should have been a good resting place for the local deer hunters, but they would not go near it. A few that tried came away before midnight with tales of ghostly thumping noises, gasps, moans, and a terrible wet bloodstain that appeared on the floor of the front porch and could not be wiped away.

Phelps was an Englishman who had purchased land some 20 miles off the Mendocino coast in the 1880s. He had built a huge, fancy Victorian house all covered with gingerbread trimmings and surrounded by lovely gardens. When everything was arranged to his liking, he sent out party invitations to everyone within messenger range. It was the biggest social event of the year, with music and dancing and huge amounts of food. Sawhorse tables were set up with refreshments, and drinks were set out on the front porch. People came from miles around. The only one missing was old man McInturf’s son-in-law. They had had a terrible fight that afternoon, and the boy had stalked off in a rage, threatening to get even with the old man.

Around midnight, the musicians took a recess and old man McInturf went out on the front porch with some friends. Suddenly there came the thunder of hooves rushing up the lane. A cloaked figure rode towards the lantern-lit porch. McInturf put down his drink. “That will be my son-in-law,” he told his friends as he went down the steps. The cloaked figure stopped his horse just outside the pool of lantern-light. There was a sharp movement and two loud shots from a gun. Old man McInturf staggered backwards, shot in the throat and the chest. The cloaked man wheeled his horse and fled down the lane as friends ran to the assistance of the old man.

They laid McInturf down on the porch. He was bleeding heavily and they were afraid to move him much. There was some talk of fetching the doctor, but everyone knew it was too late. So much blood was pouring from the old man’s wounds that it formed a pool underneath his head. McInturf coughed, once, twice; a hideous, gurgling, strangling sound that wrenched at the hearts of all who heard it. Then he died.

McInturf’s body was laid out on the sofa, and the once-merry guests left in stricken silence. The servants came and wiped the red-brown bloodstain off the floorboards. The next day, a wagon was brought to the front of the house and McInturf’s body was carried out onto the porch. As the men stepped across the place where McInturf had died, blood began to pool around their boots, forming a wet stain in exactly the pattern that had been wiped up by the servants the night before. The men gasped in fear. One of them staggered and almost dropped the body. They hurriedly laid McInturf in the back of the wagon, and a pale Phelps ordered the servants to clean up the fresh bloodstain.

From that day forward, the Phelps could not keep that part of the porch clean. Every few weeks, the damp bloodstain would reappear. They tried repainting the porch a few times, but the bloodstain would always leak through. In the county jail, McInturf’s son-in-law died of a blood clot in the brain. A few months later, one of the Phelps servants went mad after seeing a “terrible sight” that made his head feel like it was going to exploded. Folks started saying the house was being haunted by the ghost of McInturf, seeking revenge. The property was resold several times but each resident was driven out by the terrible, gasping ghost of McInturf reliving his last moments and by the bloodstain that could not be removed from the porch. The house was eventually abandoned
Dear Pip. Thank you!!! I aprieciate it!!!

Why did Henry Winkler, who started the first drive-in fast-food operation, have to shut down?
He ran out of funz!
Why did the pro football player from the last-place team drop pieces of hamburger into his soup?
He wanted to know how it felt to take part in a Soup-er Bowl!
Why did the vampire go crazy at Burger King?
He saw all that catsup and wanted a transfusion.
Why do burgers laugh when you surround them with pickles?
Who knows – maybe they’re picklish!
Why do burgers run the gauntlet?
To test their meattle!
Why do hamburgers act brilliantly on stage?
They give meaty performances – especially if they are in their prime!
Why do hamburgers feel sad at barbecues?
They get to meet their old flames!

Helen asks…

I can’t afford to take care of neighborhood’s kids, what do I do?

My 16 yr old son has a girlfriend from his school who attends some of the same classes. Over the last couple weeks, she comes over to visit and brings her little 10 yr old brother Josh.. This kid really bugs me!
Josh complains that his mother works until 2:00AM and has no money for food, rent, or anything, so he’s been begging me if he can have my food, raided my halloween candy, drink my juice, asks me for Christmas presents, insists he watch his favorite cartoons on my tv, etc, all in just 1 hour of his visit. He also says he wants to stay the night, I said he can’t. I also told him I cant afford to feed him, and that he has to be quiet in my apartment so he doesnt desturb my neighbors, but he doesn’t listen.
I want to be polite, but I dont want this kid over here. Also, I have to use my gas to drive them home everyday. I can’t afford to have these kids over here! I am also low-income, but I’ve learned to budget, and can’t afford to take care of people’s kids.

admin answers:

It breaks my heart how needy and neglected this little boy is.

Think of it this way: It may be a pain to have him around, but the alternative is your son going to his girlfriend’s house while she is babysitting . . . Alone . . . Unsupervised . . . Etc., etc., if you get my drift. At least this way you can keep an eye on your son and his girlfriend.

I think you’d be reasonable if you sat your son down and told him that he needed to limit his girlfriend’s visits to once or twice a week during the school week. He needs to study, you need to get things done, etc. But please don’t turn your back on this poor kid — he is desperate for attention, and with a mom that works until 2 AM, he obviously isn’t getting much at home.

Try talking to the mom and let her know your boundaries. At 10 years of age, there may be an after-school day care program for low-income kids that may be a better fit for him instead of tagging along after his big sister.

Your Questions About Halloween Lights Show

William asks…

Does anyone know how to set your outside xmas lights to respond to music?

To all those with electrical knowledge! Has anyone else seen the email showing the outside of a house and garden covered in christmas lights that go on and off to music? If so how would you go about setting it up?

admin answers:

Hey you’re just my type of person!!

I do Christmas and Halloween light shows every single year butb I use a DMX Controller linked up to DMX lights.

Now there are 3 chioces… There is Light O Rama, the perfect light show system around. You have a special Light O Rama Software that you can design your light show on. As long as you have the lights you want, thenm you’ll be fine. Once you have programmed you’re light show on the Sequence Editor and you are happy, it is time to bring your lights to life. Depending on which song you ahe chosen during your design, your lights willrun through the light show you designed at the touch of a button.

I am trying to purchase one for this year, but bare in mind, it is very expensive.

Next you have Animated Lighting. This light show system can be a simple Plug and Play or you can get carried away. Animated Lighting sells a mass of different products for different occasions. Take this for example:

The Haunted House in a Box (HHIAB) is a Plug and Play system that turns your house upside as it ransforms it into a Creepy Hanuted Mansion!!

They also sell products for Christmas Time, like wireframe trees that only need a secific Animated Lighting controller to light it up ahve it move in various ways.

The last choice is Light Organ. A very, very simple system that you simply plug your lights into, connect it up to an Audio Output system and WHAM!! You have your very own lights in synch with music.

Oh, I have one more for you. Vixen Lights. This system is very similar to Light O Rama but I would still recommend Light O Rama.

Follow the links below to help you on your way.

Hope this information was helpful :)

Your Questions About Halloween Fundraiser Ideas

Chris asks…

its a halloween question? please help?

my school is doing this fundraiser it’s called “Halloween Funfare” i need list of activities, decorating ideas, names of stores, website, and other stuff. it has to be fun, scary(but not that scary), easy to clean up and can buy the stuff for cheap prices. PLEASE HELP ALL MONEY WILL GO TO A CHARITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

admin answers:

GAMES: The game where you have to guess what’s in the box is always fun, with jelly and stuff, but for halloween you could use fake spiders, bats etc. Also the game where you have say 20 Halloween related objects on a tray and you have to remember as many as you can when it’s taken away. Another good game depending on how many kids there are and age group, is a halloween pass the parcel, each time a layer is opened either candy or a fake spider or something will fall out and the winner can win like a big bag of candy.
Another game is the one where you have to run to a corner and then a corner gets randomly picked and they’re out. Each corner could be something to do with Halloween such as a pumpkin, a ghost, a vampire, a zombie etc.
Also you can do one like musical statues but when the music stops they have to pull their scary faces.
DECORATIONS: Fake spiders in fake cobwebs, pumpkins, fake bats, black and orage banners and streamers. Green light bulbs are a good effect.
OTHER ACTIVITES: You could make cookies in shapes of ghosts or pumpkins like said above, or you could sell cakes and biscuits in like a bake sale to help raise money. Of course, all the children will have to come dressed up and to do this they will have to give in £1! The best outfit could win a prize too.

Hope this helps and have a great fundraiser, I wish you luck!

Ken asks…

Halloween Happening please help?!?!?!?

Well, my school is holding a Halloween Happening thing. It’s like a fundraiser for my 8th grade class for graduation expenses at the end of the year and so we’re trying to make a haunted house. I guess we have everything under control, we have some parents that are building each room for like each character we are and we get to choose what we want to be and then tell them and they make the background scene and things like that. And I plan to a greek goddess and I want to help out and get ideas to make some extra money. To get in you need to pay money but like my friend is going to be a gypsy or some fortune teller and she was going to make fortune cookies and like put her own strip of fortune inside but you have to buy it for 25 cents each so I thought that was really clever because as I said before, she could make extra money for our graduation expenses. So after saying all this you’re probably like okay BORING………………..but now let go to the main part.

So what i’m trying to ask is. If I be a greek goddess what can I do for to make extra money for my so called “room”? I really want to know soon so I can get the outfit cause before you know it it’s going to be halloween. So if you could PLEASE give me any idea of yours. Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

Well, when visiting the shrine of a goddess, doesnt it make sense to leave something? They gave money as like a sacrifice or something. Just find some little metal pan (no handles) and spray paint it gold and put little stick-on jewels on it so it looks cool and goddessy. Haha. Only thing i can think of.

William asks…

What are some innovative student council ideas?

I just won the position as class president of the freshmen class and I am in desperate need of creative ideas. I just spent the last two hours researching fundraisers online and all that comes up are crappy ideas that would not work for me because I attend a jewish high school. This means that you cannot suggest christmas, halloween, or valentines day ideas. Also, my school does not allow school dances. Also, it would be 100% idiotic to do ‘days’, such as hat day, pajama day, spirit day…etc. So, sorry for all of the ‘rules’ but now you can see where I’m coming from. Thanks sooooo much and have a great day

admin answers:

A blood drive isn’t a fundraiser but my student council hosts on every year for the American red cross and it is a great way to get the entire comunity involved. A movie night may good charge one or two dollers to get in (depending on how big your school is) and provide refreshments such as soda and chips or candy.Little Ceasers sales bring in A LOT of money i mean depending on the size of your school and comunity you can thousands of dollars, my SC made 2,300 selling them. You can have a candy guessing jar, cheep and simple. Charge people 25 cents or 50 cents to guess how many candy’s are in the jar and the jar goes to the closet guess. Do it once a week or so, i know it sounds stupid but it’s small easy and you can do it a lot. Trust me it adds up. You can also buy flowers in bulk to sell at graduation. If you buy them in bulk chances are you’ll make a profit. If there are any comunity events going on like a festival or something you can have a bake sale or something there. Car washes are good as well as bottle drives. Have a box or a trash can in or coutside of each class room for people to put bottles and cans in, collect them each week and take them to a return center. That’s pretty much all i can think of right now, but i’ll let you know if i can think of anything else.

Sandra asks…
